Sun Poem
This week in Room Five, we have been creating sun poems. We brainstormed ideas for our sun poems in our writing books and made a poem out of them. Here is my finished sun poem.
The sun is a light bulb shining
across the sky.
It is a soccer ball getting kicked
to the other side of the earth.
The sun is a gold coin glistering
on everything below.
It is a fireball glowing radiantly.
The sun is a face spying over
the earth.
It is a lemon squirting its juice in
peoples eyes.

Marae Trip
Yesterday, our school went to the marae at Unitec. When we hopped off the bus, Whaea Linda and Whaea Jess welcomed us onto the marae. When we got into the wharenui we took our shoes off and went inside. When we sat down we met Papa Hau and Matua Hare. Papa Hau told us all about legends and carvings on the maraes walls. After that, it was morning tea. We walked into the wharekai and had Milo, biscuits and scones. YUM. When we finished morning tea, and it was time to go back to school, the boys performed a haka. The marae trip was a lot of fun! Here are some pictures of our trip:

Ice Experiment
Today we did an experiment with ice, dye, and salt. Mrs Drummond froze water balloons and made ice balls to use in the experiment. We put a couple of ice balls in a bowl and dropped some food dye onto the ice. Then we put some salt onto the ice and watched it. It started to make little bumps when we added the salt. We learnt what happens when you add salt to ice. When you add salt to ice, it makes bumps. This is what it looked like:

Descriptive Writing
This week in Room five, we have been focusing on descriptive writing. We went on to the literacy shed website and picked a picture to describe. Here is my descriptive writing:
This morning I looked out of my bedroom window to see a beautiful golden sunrise, a sunny blue sky, and a fresh soft layer of white snow. The thick fog makes the field seem even more mystic.
I could hear the bluebirds softly tweet in the bare trees.
When I take each step gently strolling out the front door, I feel the snow crunch softly under my boots. I look back and see my footprints in the snow.
I tilt my head upward and try to spot animals in the fluffy clouds.
My hands feel warm inside my light blue woollen mittens.
I enjoy feeling the cool winter breeze blowing against my body.

Year six camp 2019
A couple weeks ago the year sixes of 2019 went to M.E.R.C ( Marine Education Recreational Center ) in long bay for camp. The very first thing we did there was go to our dorms and unpack, which wasn't hard at all. Then when we finished unpacking we had morning tea, which was delicious! For my groups first activity we did archery. Archery was so fun but was also very hot. After archery we headed back and had our lunch. And continued our activities when suddenly the smoke alarm went off, but luckily it was just a malfunction. My Favourite activity was stack'em, here is a photo of me stacking milk crates:
Some other activities were giant paddle boarding, kayaking, abseiling, orienteering, the giants ladder, rock climbing, and raft building. Camp was the most fun experience ever!
